As your DGE, I was able to attend International Assembly
Training last month in San Diego with the 535 DGEs from all over the world. The week
started with a fantastic speech from our RI President-Elect, Barry Rassin, setting
the exciting tone for all of us to meet and share ideas from all of Rotary.
During the next several days, we would all gather: DGEs,
spouses, RI Leadership, around 1200 people, for informational presentations,
and then move to breakout sessions with 20-25 of our colleagues. These breakout
sessions were especially informative as in every group, 11 to 15 different
countries would be represented. The knowledge and best practices that were shared
freely helped to confirm that District 6900 is one of the best Rotary
districts in the world.
Highlights of the week were the International Parade of
Countries with Rotarians dressed in native costumes, followed by a dinner and
dance. Next was Zone Night on Wednesday, all the DGEs from Zone 33/34 got
together for a wonderful dinner on the San Diego Bay.
On Thursday evening, we were all treated to a President-Elect
Barry kind of party- a casual Bahama theme with dinner and dancing into the
